Getting your class specialization in ME1 was kind of random, but at least it was a quest reward, and if you didn't know better, you might assume it just came with completing a certain amount of quests or getting enough experience. ME2 has been such a marked improvement over ME1 in so many ways. When it turns out all she needed to do was borrow one of Garrus' spare rifles this whole time! There's not even any dialogue! An Adept could have gone the whole game with just a pistol, wishing she could strike from afar. I expected a scene where Sheppard is forced to pick up a 'random' weapon after losing hers, or Jacob offering to train you in something new because we're gonna need all the help we can get.
